New Vampire Documentary "A Place Among the Undead"

 photo Dru-Julie-Landau_l.jpg

The force behind the documentary "A Place Among the Undead" is none other than Juliet Landau (Drusilla from BTVS), with funding through IndieGoGo ~ send in the money to get this made!!!

Here's Juliet via Nerdist

I had the opportunity to play Drusilla on Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel and now, I am making A Place Among the Undead, which is fast becoming the most definitive vampire documentary ever made. The film is a tapestry with interlinking narrative films inspired by the conversations.
I had the extreme pleasure of interviewing Anne (Rice) in Los Angeles and filming with her at the Vampire Ball in New Orleans last year. As I have been wending my way through the project, all roads continually lead to Anne. Each interviewee has talked about the influence of her writing and how her books inspired them to create. Without her, there is no modern interpretation of the undead. She has become as mythic as her beloved Lestat.
If Bram Stoker is the father of the genre then she is the mother, or should I say the queen… Yes, she is “The Queen of the Dammed.” We are all her children and grateful to be so.

Enjoyable discussion video concerning author Anne Rice, including comments by Joss Whedon, Tim Burton, and Charlaine Harris (author of the True Blood novels).

Buffy Turns 18 ~ Tribute in The Atlantic

 photo tumblr_lhgweyKR121qb8jj3o1_500.gif

The Atlantic has a great tribute to Buffy the Vampire Slayer as the show turns 18 years old.

From The Atlantic
Buffy is ... unique in that, as much as Sunnydale is a Hellmouth, high school is hell. The monsters in the first season are literal manifestations of the demons that plague teenagers—a controlling mother who's so intent on living through her daughter that she switches bodies with her, a pack of teenage boys who become uncontrollably feral, an Internet boyfriend who pretends to be a normal kid but whose real identity is much more complex (in this case, he's a demon called Moloch who got accidentally uploaded onto the Internet). In the episode “Out of Mind, Out of Sight,” one of Buffy’s classmates is ignored to the extent that she physically becomes invisible. In transmogrifying common teenage issues into actual, tangible villains, Buffy makes them seem important, and worth agonizing over. It also makes them seem conquerable.

. . . Television has had lots of complex, admirable teenage heroines since Buffy, but it's hard to think of one so consistently empowered to take control of the circumstances around her, whether in the middle of a graveyard, surrounded by vampires, or in her bedroom, grounded. Buffy’s super-strength is a physical attribute endowed by the forces of destiny, but it's also a state of confidence and competence that carries her through the varying traumas of having the fate of the world always on her shoulders.

New Joss Whedon Movie on Vimeo for Five Bucks

 photo 17648_275x407.jpg

Joss Whedon premiered his new movie "In Your Eyes" at the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend.

The video is available on Vimeo for the new low price of $5.

From Moviefone
In Whedon's latest movie, "In Your Eyes," which he wrote and executive produced, two strangers on opposite coasts share a metaphysical, inexplicable connection. The first three minutes of the movie, directed by Brin Hill, has been released ahead of its premiere this weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival.

In the opening scene, a girl named Rebecca is sledding, while a boy named Dylan is attending school. As Rebecca races down the hill, suddenly Dylan can see through her eyes. And when Rebecca crashes into a tree, Dylan experiences it, too.

Most of the movie follows Rebecca (Zoe Kazan) and Dylan (Michael Stahl-David) as adults, when they become aware of their unique, supernatural link.

From USA Today
In lieu of theatrical distribution, he's making his new movie, In Your Eyes, available now for a $5 digital stream at InYourEyesMovie.com. It is the second indie release from Whedon and partner/wife Kai Cole's Bellwether Pictures production company.
"It's exciting for us because it means we get to explore yet another new form of distribution — and we get $5," says Whedon, who directed The Avengersand wrote the screenplay for the new movie.

Smashing Premieres for Geller and Whedon

 photo success_baby.jpg

Both "Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." on ABC and "The Crazy Ones" on CBS had great premieres this week! As long as they don't put the shows up against each other, I guess we will be okay. :) And lets not forget online watching through cable TV, and future marathons via Netflix. It's just good that these shows exist.

From Variety
Nielsen estimates that the extended, seventh-season premiere of “The Big Bang Theory” did a whopping 5.6 rating/17 share in adults 18-49 and 18.9 million viewers overall from 8 to 9 p.m., funneling plenty of eyeballs into “The Crazy Ones,” which opened well with a 4.0/11 in the demo and 15.6 million viewers overall.

“Crazy,” in which Williams plays a Chicago ad exec, is the season’s No. 2 new series in demos (behind ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD”) and No. 1 in total viewers.

The combo of “Crazy Ones” at 9 and veteran “Two and a Half Men” in its new timeslot at 9:30 (2.9/8 in 18-49, 11.5 million viewers overall) provided CBS with nice timeslot improvement in key demos over last year’s drama, “Person of Interest.”

The Eye carried the night in key demos and won easily in total viewers.

Entertainment Weekly Inside Television
ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — a show so big it takes two company names to officially describe it — delivered 11.9 million viewers and a 4.6 adults 18-49 rating. That makes S.H.I.E.L.D. TV’s highest-rated drama debut in nearly four years (since ABC’s V premiere in November, 2009).

That adult demo number is particular impressive given the show’s time slot. S.H.I.E.L.D. had to self-start at 8 p.m. — no lead-in — and ran against huge competition: NBC’s The Voice and CBS’ NCIS are two of the most popular shows on television. And how did it stand up? S.H.I.E.L.D. (recap here) actually managed to tie the two-hour The Voice overall in the demo (4.6) — and beat it head-to-head during the 8 p.m. hour — while trouncing the return of NCIS in the demo (3.4), though obviously losing among total viewers (19.4 million).

. . . S.H.I.E.L.D. co-creator Joss Whedon, who previously launched modestly rated culty dramas like Firefly and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, told EW that ratings for the new show don’t really matter — except for when they do. “I mean, I want it to be a hit because people who I work for have invested in it, and people I work with are in it, and writing it, and I want it to continue,” Whedon explained. “We have the opportunity to do something special. If it’s not special, hopefully it will go away. I think we’ll be okay there. But I can’t measure it in those terms. It doesn’t seem useful to me.”

Whedon ~ New Teen Vampire Shows are "Choosing Boyfriends: The Movie"

 photo vampire-diaries.jpg

Joss Whedon is frustrated with the latest crop of Vampire tales, and he has good reason to be. From "Twilight" to "Vampire Diaries" there are no characters to match the power of Buffy, Willow, Tara, or Anya. Most girls don't want to slay the vampires - they want to date them!

From Entertainment Weekly Via Wet Paint
"The thing about Buffy for me is–on a show-by-show basis–are there female characters who are being empowered, who are driving the narrative?”

That question mark has him disappointed in relationship-centric vampire dramas that focus on love triangles — which he did with Buffy, Angel, and Spike through the years, but in a different way — and the magazine specifically asked about Twilight and The Vampire Diaries.

“The Twilight thing and a lot of these franchise attempts coming out, everything rests on what this girl will do, but she’s completely passive, or not really knowing what the hell is going on,” he said. “And that’s incredibly frustrating to me because a lot of what’s taking on the oeuvre of Buffy, is actually a reaction against it. Everything is there — except for the Buffy. A lot of things aimed at the younger kids is just Choosing Boyfriends: The Movie.”

Joss Whedon's Episode of The Office "Business School"

 photo DwightJimVampire.jpg

Halloween is a few months from now, but anytime is right for vampires in the Buffyverse, right?

So indulge yourself with either DVDs or Netflix and watch The Office episode directed by Joss Whedon. In it, a bat is trapped all day inside the building, leading Dwight Shrute to believe that his co-worker Jim has transformed into a Vampire. But in the end it is bimbo Meredith who gets bitten by the little flying creature, putting her in the hospital with rabies.

But there's just as much hilarity when Michael Scott (Steve Carell) accompanies his protege, Ryan Howard (B. J. Novak), to business school to give a pep talk to the class and instead ends up destroying textbooks while furiously denying that the "paper-based business model" of Dunder Mifflin could ever fail. It's a tour-de-force for Carell.

Exciting ~ Sarah Michelle Geller Talks Possible Buffy Movie

 photo tumblr_llzqy4x7gJ1qgqkw9o1_500.gif

Wow - you don't get news like this every day! A Glimmer of Hope for the Fans from an E! Online interview with Sarah Michelle Geller.

"Joss and I always talk about [a movie]," Gellar told me during an interview for E! News. "But the thing with Buffy is that Buffy was a movie, and it ultimately didn't work as a film. And I mean, we had such miles to overcome when we were trying to do a TV show based on a movie. And one of the reasons is that the story works better over time."

And now here comes the tiny sliver: "If there was ever the right story, we would do it."

We'll take it! Right, fans? Even though Gellar also jokes that, "At this point, the stake would be my walker and I would be hobbling in."

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Premiere and Panel at Comic Con

 photo 6df6a34a-2f6d-42e1-9b4d-9697a18c808e.jpg

Lucky fans got to see the complete pilot episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. at Comic Con in San Diego!

Entertainment Weekly Has the Scoop ~ *S*P*O*I*L*E*R*S*

From USA Today
SAN DIEGO -- ABC took the wraps off Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on Friday, giving the new drama its first public screening at Comic-Con. It premieres Sept. 24.

What the pilot showed was a team of highly skilled but not superpowered agents under the suddenly alive and kicking Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), who died in The Avengers movie.

The episode explained the revival of the character, who appeared to have a grand time getting around, whether by team plane or his vintage, souped-up Corvette, Lola.

. . . Avengers director Joss Whedon is an executive producer of the series, which started shooting last week. He co-wrote and directed the pilot and the episode reflected his style, down to its humorous touches.

"I have that feeling that I have not had for a long time where I have assembled this extraordinary ensemble of ridiculously talented and soon-to-be-very-full-of-themselves people," Whedon said after the screening. "The endless possibilities that we have between them, among them, in their pasts, in their futures ... the things we've taken from the Marvel universe, that we're bringing to the Marvel universe, this is a show that has so much history and so much to make. I guess I'm a little excited."

Firefly ~ The Video Game

 photo tumblr_mj1bgz8jNe1qe8ekgo3_500.gif

The internet is abuzz with news that Firefly will live on as social media interactive game with Apps.

Official Website:
KeepFlying.com

Via Eurogamer
Firefly Online will launch for iOS and Android devices during the summer of 2014, Fox announced at San Diego Comic Con ...

...It's being developed by Dairy Queen Tycoon developer Spark Plug Games and sci-fi tie-in company QMXi.

You'll be able to build and customise your own ship and, as captain, hire a crew and head on missions. The Online part comes from meeting and trading with other players, which you'll be able to do cross-platform.

Firefly ran for a single solitary season in 2002 before Fox's cancellation axe culled the show in its infancy. Creator Joss Whedon did manage to revive it for one-off movie continuation Serenity, however.

Cabin in the Woods Maze Coming to Universal Orlando!

 photo TheCabinintheWoods.jpg

This will draw huge crowds at Halloween!

From Hollywood Reporter
In an example of life imitating art that was, itself, imitating art, both the cabin and the subterranean base unleashing B-movie hell on its inhabitants are going to be recreated as part of Universal Orlando's annual Halloween Horror Nights celebration this fall. But don't worry: Visitors to this particular cabin will be on the side of the guys in charge of the whole shebang.

According to reports, The Cabin in The Woods attraction will include a storyline co-written by Goddard in which the larger mythology and background of the organization based underneath the cabin will be revealed, via Lost-like induction films to new recruits (i.e., the attraction's visitors). "My wish for Cabin was always that it would live on outside the film, that people would take that ball and run with it," the writer told Zap2It.com, "and I can't imagine a better fit for what we were trying to do with the movie than make a maze out of it."

. . . The Cabin maze will run select nights from Sept. 20 through Nov. 2 as part of Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights 23 event.

From Moviefone
The storyline of the attraction, to be written by Goddard, will expand the mythology of the mysterious organization behind the cabin's undertakings, and will feature videos inducting new recruits -- the visitors -- into its ranks. Universal officials have said that the attraction will keep the spirit of "Cabin"'s surprise cameos alive by featuring not only creatures from the film, but other classic monsters from the Universal fold.

Much Ado About Much Ado

 photo 532533_10152020139139199_1590661610_n.jpg

source: Regal Cinema Poster Contest on Facebook

Joss Whedon's version of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" opens to a wider audience tomorrow, although skipping many cities (such as my own hometown of Chattanooga). So you may have to drive a couple hundred miles to see it, but if it's popular with general audiences it will surely spread to more theaters.

Theater Listings for June

From ComingSoon.Net
Filmed in just 12 days entirely on location in exotic Santa Monica, Calif., Much Ado About Nothing features a stellar cast of beloved, or soon to be beloved, actors - some of them veterans of Shakespearean theater, some completely new to the form, but all dedicated to the idea that this story bears retelling, that this dialogue is as fresh and intoxicating as any being written, and that the joy of working on a passion project surrounded by dear friends, admired colleagues and an atmosphere of unabashed rapture far outweighs their hilariously miniature paychecks.

Shot in glorious black and white by Jay Hunter, the June 7 release stars Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof as Beatrice and Benedick, the world's least likely lovers headed for their inevitable tumble into love. The supporting cast includes Nathan Fillion as Dogberry, Clark Gregg as Leonato, Fran Kranz as Claudio and Reed Diamond as Don Pedro.

Joss Whedon will appear with Stephen Colbert tonight. I will post the video as soon as it appears.

Robert Downey Jr. Signed for Avengers 2

 photo tumblr_monps3pQqf1qerawio2_250.gif

Robert Downey Jr. WILL Definitely appear in Avengers 2, which is good news since Director Joss Whedon recently said the movies couldn't be made with him.

Whedon Via Daily Beast
He is Iron Man. He is Iron Man in the way that Sean Connery was James Bond. I have no intention of making Avengers 2 without him, nor do I think I’ll be called upon to do that. I don’t think it’s in my interest, Marvel’s interest, or his interest, and I think everything will be fine. But I know that this is Hollywood and you roll with things. You have to be ready for the unexpected. But I loved working with Robert, and everybody knows he embodied that role in a way no one else can. The day he was cast, I went up to [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige and said, “You brilliant son of a bitch.”

EW Inside Movies
Picture a big pile of money in that metal hand.

Robert Downey Jr. has reached a two-picture deal with Marvel Studios to appear in The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3 — but notably

He reportedly earned more than $50 million for The Avengers, and although his multi-picture contract with the comic-book moviemakers was fulfilled by Iron Man 3, everyone involved was moving forward as if a deal for more films was inevitable.

“I’d go start another one tomorrow, but it’s not tomorrow,” Downey told EW when Iron Man 3 was debuting. “And there are a lot of other considerations. But I also don’t like the idea of leaving people hanging or leaving people in the lurch.”

How Joss Whedon Juggles His Time

 photo clock.gif

From How To Be Prolific - an Interview with Joss Whedon by Ari Karpel of Fast Company
. . . surprisingly, Whedon advises getting the fun stuff done first. “Some people will disagree, but for me if I’ve written a meaty, delightful, wonderful bunch of scenes and now I have to do the hard, connective, dog’s body work of writing, when I finish the dog’s body work, I’ll have a screenplay that I already love. I used to write chronologically when I started, from beginning to end. Eventually I went, That’s absurd; my heart is in this one scene, therefore I must follow it. Obviously, if you know you have a bunch of stuff to do, I have to lay out this, all this dull stuff, and I feel very uncreative but the clock is ticking. Then you do that and you choose to do that. But I always believe in just have as much fun as you can so that when you’re in the part that you hate there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, that you’re close to finished.”

I cut in, asking if he’s read David Allen’s book, Getting Things Done. “I did not get that done,” Whedon says, with a straight face. “I told him, actually, because he did a little talk at someone’s house and I did tell him, ‘You should write a second book called Finishing This Book.' But it has been enormously helpful, even in the baby steps version that I embrace. I still use the phrases.” Such as? “ ‘Next actions’ is one of the most important things that you can say in any endeavor."

. . . *SNIP*

“I read The Killer Angels. It’s a very detailed, extraordinarily compelling account of the Battle of Gettysburg from the point of view of various people in it and it’s historical. It’s historically completely accurate, and the moment I put it down I created Firefly, because I was like, ‘I need to tell this story. I need to feel this immediacy. I so connect with that era, the Western and how tactile everything is and how every decision is life or death, and how hard it is and how just rich it is, and how all the characters are just so fascinating.’ But so I should be on the Millennium Falcon. Now, if I only watched sci-fi I would have just had the Millennium Falcon part, which has already been done, but finding that historical texture, it literally, I put the book down and started writing Firefly. And that was my vacation from Buffy, which was two weeks. I got two weeks every year, and in that vacation I read, in 14 days, 10 books. My wife and I saw like nine plays, and that’s all we did. We just filled the tanks.

. . . *SNIP*

EVERYONE NEEDS SOME TOUGH LOVE.
"This comes from Kai, my wife, who produced the film. She [quotes from] Rio Grande: ‘Get it done, Johnny Reb.’ It’s like, don’t make excuses. There aren’t any anymore. If you’re talking about it, you should be doing it ...
